Get the Latest Acura Navigation DVD 2012

In the second series of our “how to” guides and hints and tips for Honda and Acura vehicle GPS map updates we have information on how you can update your Acura Navigation System (we previously told you how you can update your Honda GPS Maps).  You will need to purchase a new navigation DVD which contains all the latest routes, directions, new roads, highways, and business addresses – plus a database that includes millions of points of interest files including restaurant review and tourist attraction destinations.

The Acura range of luxury motors have become one of the more popular vehicle brands in the United States over the last ten years, with the range including the CL, MDX, RDX, RL, TL, TSX, and ZDX models.  Many of these models let the driver purchase the Technology package which comes with a GPS embedded into the dashboard – including rear-view camera integration to help with reversing plus entertainment options and traffic notifications.  If you want to keep the maps up to date though you will need to purchase the new annual Acura Navigation DVD for 2012 and the latest disc was released in September of 2011.

Installing new Acura GPS Map Updates from Disc
If you do decide to purchase the new Acura Navi DVD then it’s very easy to install, and this is how you do it in three simple steps:

1.       First find the disc drive for your Acura GPS.  Most of the time the slot will be integrated into the dashboard itself below the navigation screen display, but on some older models before 2003 it will instead be located underneath the driver’s seat or even inside the glove box.

2.       Once the new disc is placed inside the drive, the display will ask you to enter your own unique serial number.  This will be printed onto the DVD’s packaging and case so make sure that you don’t lose it.

3.       The new map updates will now start to install automatically – please be aware that due to the large amount of data being installed onto the GPS hard-disc you could be waiting for as much as an hour for it to complete.
One word of warning when updating with the new Acura Navigation DVD – do not turn off the car ignition of the GPS device when installed the new disc because this could lead to a corrupted install – you may have to consult a qualified Acura engineer or mechanic in some cases if this happens.

Why Purchase Acura Navigation System Updates?
Aside from benefiting from any road changes that might have occurred in the United States since your last update, the new disc and an up to date GPS can actually save you money on fuel costs and CO2 emissions.  This is because it will automatically route you the shortest or quickest route – plus with traffic alerts it will suggest a different route if you are faced with traffic jams.  In traffic jams you use more fuel due to the stopping and starting driving style.

How to Update the Dashboard GPS in Your Honda Car

Updating the GPS maps on a standalone device such as a Garmin or TomTom is really easy.  All you do is connect and synchronize the unit with your PC and Mac and purchase a new map database online with the relevant manufacturer – and the new routes and directions are then installed directly onto the GPS.
However, when it comes to the Honda Navigation System it’s not possible to remove it and download the new upgrades each year.  Instead you need to order an actual DVD or disc and then physically install the latest versions using the disc drive that’s inside the car.

Around 20% of all Honda vehicles come with the Honda Navigation System, so this actually affects thousands of drivers.  Honda have already sold over 50,000 cars in 2012 so far – and there are many drivers who will need to get the new 2012 Honda Navigation DVD at some point in the next 12 months if they want the GPS to remain completely current.

Save Time and Money with the Honda Navigation DVD 2012
If you do decide to purchase the new Honda Navigation disc then don’t be put off by the price.  Typically you can expect to pay anywhere between $150 and $300 US Dollars for the new DVD depending on which model of Honda you drive.  Honda cars that feature the dashboard navigation system include:

·         Accord
·         Civic
·         Crosstour
·         CR-Z
·         CRV
·         Element
·         Fit
·         Insight
·         Odyssey
·         Pilot
·         Ridgeline

As we mentioned though, you can save money and cash by updating.  Firstly the price of updates is actually lower than buying a standalone GPS like Garmin, TomTom, or Magellan – but over the course of a year’s driving you will also save on fuel costs too.  This is because a Honda Navigation System with the latest roads and highways on will always route you the quickest or shortest way.  Plus if you have traffic alerts enabled you will also avoid traffic jams and snarl-ups which is where fuel consumption is at its highest.

The Average American Driving Habits and Statistics
Research conducted by the US Department of Transportation in 2011 states that the average American driving habits during a year break down as follows:

·         Average Fuel/Gas Price of $3.5 Dollars Per Gallon
·         Average Annual Mileage Driven of 15,000 Miles or 24,140 Kilometers
·         Driving on Both Inner City and Outer City Roads and Highways
·         Average Engine Sizes of Between 2 and 3 Liters

Based on these numbers it’s possible to calculate how much a GPS can save the average America driver across the course of 12 months.  This research is courtesy of an independent research agency who works closely with GPS satellite navigation and automobile associations.

Annual Savings Each Year with a GPS
·         Time Savings: 5 Hours Driving
·         Fuel Savings: 129 Gallons of Fuel
·         Money Savings: $450 US Dollars
·         CO2 Emissions Savings: 958kg of CO2

So as you can see, it’s not just about money, but the new Honda Navigation System Update will also save you not time and help you to reduce your carbon footprint - which is a great asset in today’s more economical, green-thinking, and austere times.
