2012 NAIAS: 2012 Acura NSX In-Depth
Above is a video that was shown at the NAIAS during the launch of the next-generation Acura NSX.
Here are some tidbits that we've learnt about the NSX since its introduction. If you were worried whether or not Honda was serious about producing a v2.0 of the NSX, consider this: Honda's CEO, Takanobu Ito worked on the team that developed the first-generation NSX's all-aluminum chassis. He called that job one of his most important projects of his life at the point. A nice reminder of Honda's enthusiast roots. Hopefully, they won't go away.
Some of you may also be wondering why the NSX is being built in Ohio and not in Japan like the first-generation NSX? (FYI: Honda has an engine plant, transmission plant, assembly plant and a R&D centre located in Ohio) The reason to this is that Honda is now committed to building cars in the market in which they are sold. The U.S. market will be the NSX's largest market followed by Japan. Another reason why the NSX will be built in Ohio is the positive press response to the product development of Honda's other North American market-only vehicles (Odyssey and Pilot). The third reason why Honda is building the NSX in the US is Honda has faith in the quality of its Ohio production assemblies and wants to take advantage of the expertise offered at the plant. Production of a halo car would also increase morale and generate motivation for its workers.
Honda's US CEO denied the fact that the strong yen was a factor in moving the production of the next-generation NSX to the US because the limited-production nature of the NSX renders the strong yen effect moot. Whether or not it's built in the US or Japan, Honda's CEO affirmed that the main focus is to bring the NSX back to market with its advanced technology, superb quality and outstanding performance.
